About Mole Excision at Kayakriti

Skin lesions vary widely in cause and behaviour. Moles can be present from birth or develop later, often influenced by sun exposure. Sebaceous and dermoid cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can occur on the face, scalp, and trunk. Lipomas are benign collections of fat under the skin. Warts are caused by the HPV virus and are small, rough, often itchy growths.

Mole excision surgery is straightforward when the lesion is well defined, but technique matters. Laser and radiofrequency are good choices for superficial, small, pigmented moles. Surgical excision is better for deep moles, suspicious moles, or when pathological examination is required. Skin mole removal treatment at Kayakriti always includes histology when there is any clinical concern, even if the mole appears benign.

Cosmetic mole removal is usually performed as a daycare procedure under local anaesthesia. The session takes 15 to 45 minutes depending on the number and size of lesions. We mark each lesion in good light, plan the incision along skin tension lines for a finer scar, and close with fine sutures. Laser mole removal involves a similar workflow with a different energy source.

Most patients in Lucknow return to routine activity the day after surgery. Healing takes two to three weeks for the surface, with scar maturation continuing for six to twelve months. Daily sunscreen on the scar is essential. We provide silicone gel where appropriate and review at one week for suture removal and again at one and three months to track scar quality.

Risks of mole, cyst, wart, or lipoma excision include infection, bleeding, delayed healing, persistent swelling and bruising, changes in skin sensation, and visible scarring. Complications are uncommon when the procedure is performed under sterile conditions by an experienced surgeon. Dr. Agarwal explains the specific risks for your lesion before agreeing to surgery.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Should every mole be sent for pathology?
We send removed tissue for pathological examination whenever there is any clinical concern about a mole, even if it appears benign. This is a routine safety step that confirms the diagnosis. For typical small benign-looking moles, the decision is made case by case. Dr. Agarwal, FRCS Edinburgh, explains the recommendation for your specific lesion.
Is laser or surgical removal better?
Laser and radiofrequency suit superficial, small, pigmented moles and give an excellent cosmetic result. Surgical excision is better for deeper moles, when pathology is needed, or when the lesion is in a high-tension area. Laser is not recommended for deep moles. We choose based on lesion type, depth, and location, not on patient request alone.
Will the scar be visible?
All skin removal leaves some scar, but careful planning along skin tension lines, fine suturing, and good aftercare produce fine scars that fade over six to twelve months. Indian skin can scar more visibly than fair skin, so we counsel on realistic expectations and provide silicone gel, sun protection, and review to support healing.
How long is recovery?
Most patients in Lucknow return to routine work the next day. The surface heals over two to three weeks. Sutures are removed at five to seven days for facial lesions and ten to fourteen days for trunk and limb lesions. Scar continues to mature over six to twelve months. Sun protection during this time is essential.
Does mole removal hurt?
The procedure itself is performed under local anaesthesia, so there is no pain during removal. Patients describe pressure rather than sharp sensation. Mild tenderness for a day or two is common and easily managed with paracetamol. Heavy painkillers are not needed for routine cosmetic mole removal in our day-care theatre.
