Liposuction of Arms

Arm liposuction in Lucknow at Kayakriti reduces stubborn upper-arm fat to give a leaner, more proportionate arm contour. Performed by Dr. Amit Agarwal, FRCS Edinburgh and American Board of Plastic Surgery, this is a body shaping procedure rather than a weight loss surgery. This page explains who benefits, how arm contouring surgery is performed, and what recovery looks like for our Lucknow patients.

About Liposuction of Arms

Arm liposuction is a body contouring procedure that targets resistant fat in the upper arms. It is not a weight loss treatment. Patients with severe or morbid obesity (BMI above 35 to 40) are usually advised to lose weight first through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery before considering arm fat removal. The technique is best suited to patients close to their target weight whose arm shape is held back by genetic fat deposits rather than overall body fat.

Stubborn upper-arm fat often does not respond to exercise alone. Genetics influence how easily it goes, and many of our Lucknow patients have spent years training without changing the arm contour. Liposuction targets these localised pockets directly. When the skin tone is good, the result is a noticeably slimmer arm. When the skin sags significantly, we plan a brachioplasty (arm lift) instead, or we combine the two.

At Kayakriti, safety drives the surgical plan. Arm liposuction can be combined with liposuction of other body areas if the total volume is reasonable and the patient remains comfortable. If a larger amount of liposuction is needed elsewhere, Dr. Agarwal stages the procedures and performs arm liposuction once you have fully recovered from the previous surgery, rather than rushing both into one sitting.

Suitable candidates are in good general health, at or near a stable weight, with reasonable skin elasticity and realistic expectations. During consultation, Dr. Agarwal examines arm shape, skin tone, and overall body proportion, then explains technique, scar location, anaesthesia, expected downtime, and the written cost estimate. Smokers are advised to stop weeks before and after to support healing.

The procedure uses tumescent fluid to reduce bleeding and discomfort, then fat is removed through tiny access incisions using fine cannulas. Operating time is usually one to one and a half hours, and most patients are discharged the same day. A compression sleeve is worn for several weeks to support healing and contour. Recovery is generally comfortable and most patients resume desk work within five to seven days. Final contour settles over three to four months.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is arm liposuction safe?
Arm liposuction is a low-risk procedure when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. At Kayakriti it is carried out in a fully equipped theatre with a qualified anaesthetist. Risks such as bruising, contour irregularity, fluid collection, or numbness are uncommon and minimised by careful patient selection, tumescent technique, and consistent compression and follow-up.
Will arm liposuction tighten loose skin?
Liposuction reduces fat volume but does not directly tighten skin. Younger patients with good elasticity see useful skin retraction. Patients with significant arm skin laxity, often after weight loss, may need a brachioplasty (arm lift) or a combined approach to remove the loose skin. Dr. Agarwal will guide you toward the right option.
How long is recovery from arm liposuction?
Most patients return to desk work within five to seven days. The compression sleeve is worn for four to six weeks. Gym training and heavy lifting are deferred for around six weeks. Bruising and swelling settle over two to three weeks, and the final cosmetic arm treatment contour becomes apparent at three to four months.
Can arm liposuction be combined with other procedures?
Yes, in carefully selected cases. Arm liposuction can be combined with liposuction of other body areas if the total volume is reasonable. Larger combinations are staged for safety. Dr. Agarwal will assess the safest plan for your overall body shaping goals during consultation, balancing efficiency with predictable recovery.
Will the fat come back after arm liposuction?
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated area. If you maintain stable weight, the contour improvement lasts long term. Significant weight gain can enlarge remaining fat cells elsewhere and, less commonly, in the treated zone. Regular activity and a balanced diet preserve the new arm contour.
