About Face Lift

A MACS facelift is designed to lift the deeper tissues of the cheek, jowl, and upper neck through shorter, well-hidden incisions in front of and behind the ear. Strong purse-string sutures are used to suspend the descended tissues to firm anchor points in the deep temporal fascia. Compared with traditional long-incision facelifts, the MACS approach offers reduced operating time, less bruising, and a faster overall recovery while still giving meaningful, lasting results.

The procedure addresses the tell-tale signs of mid-face and lower-face ageing: descended cheeks, deepening nasolabial folds, jowls along the jawline, and early loss of definition under the chin. The classical youthful triangle, with full cheeks above and a defined jawline below, becomes inverted with age. A facelift restores that triangle by lifting tissue back to its earlier position, rather than simply pulling skin tighter.

A simple MACS lift uses two sutures to address the lower face and upper neck. An extended MACS lift adds a third suture to support the mid-face and lower eyelid area. Excess skin is then redraped naturally and trimmed with minimal tension, so scars heal as fine lines hidden in the hairline and ear contours. Many patients combine facelift with brow lift, blepharoplasty, fat grafting, or upper lip lift for a more complete facial rejuvenation surgery plan.

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes three to four hours depending on the extent. A small drain may be used for the first day. Most patients spend one night in our Lucknow centre for monitoring and pain control. Sutures in front of and behind the ear are removed in stages over the first two weeks.

Recovery is gradual. Bruising and swelling are most marked in the first week, then settle steadily over two to three weeks. Most patients are comfortable returning to social settings by three weeks. Numbness in front of the ears is expected and resolves over weeks to a few months. Final results, including a smoother jawline and refreshed cheek and neck contour, become apparent over two to three months.
